Electric trains will start running on two first Moscow Central Diameters in late 2019 - early 2020 as has been announced by the website of the complex of urban policy and construction of Moscow with reference to the Head of the Moscow Construction Department Andrei Bochkarev.

“Currently, the infrastructure for launching the first two diameters: from Odintsovo to Lobnya and from Nakhabino to Podolsk, is being constructed. There will be about six Moscow Central Diameters. Now we are working on them and will report the results later," Bochkarev said.

The project "Moscow Central Diameters" was presented by Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin in October 2017. It provides for the organization of routes of trains passing through the Moscow Region. The developers of the project consider the possibility to build 17, 20 or more than 20 routes. The exact quantity will be determined after passenger flow simulation and design have been completed. In 2017, the total passenger traffic was 391.5 million people per year. The interval of movement of trains on the MCDs will be up to 6 minutes during peak hours.

The first route is planned to be opened will be from Lobnya to Odintsovo. The second one: from Nakhabino to Podolsk. When announcing the project, both the first and the second routes were planned to be opened in 2018-2019. In 2019-2025 years should be organized 5 more routes: Zelenograd - Ramenskoe, Pushkino/Korolev - Ramenskoe, Zelenograd - Podolsk, Nakhabino - Zheleznodorozhny and Odintsovo - Zheleznodorozhny. In December 2017, the Coordinating Council of the Moscow transport hub approved a schedule for the implementation of the project "Development of diametrical routes of the Moscow transport hub. Stage 1". The government of the Moscow Region announced that trains would start running on the first two routes in the 2nd quarter of 2019.

The project is implemented by the government of Moscow, the government of the Moscow Region, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, JSC Russian Railways and JSC Central Suburban Passenger Company. Funds will be allocated by the government of Moscow (20-25 billion rubles) and JSC "RZD" (25-30 billion rubles). Investments in MCD-1 will amount to 8 billion rubles, MCD-2 - 12 billion rubles. Construction of two additional tracks on the Kalanchevskaya railway overpass near the Komsomolskaya square in Moscow requires 20 billion rubles.

For the first two routes, Central Suburban Passenger Company is going to purchase 50 electric trains valued at 20 billion rubles. The company has chosen the electric train series EG2Tv "Ivolga" produced by JSC "Tver Carriage Plant" as a rolling stock. Delivery of 23 electric trains (worth 11.7 billion rubles) is planned until the middle of the 2nd quarter of 2019, another 15 (10.9 billion rubles) - for the 3rd quarter of 2019.
