HSR "Ural" will be a logical continuation of the Moscow-Kazan HSR
"As the comprehensive plan is fulfilled in 2019-2024, we will set a challenging task to extend the HSR to Ural during the following six years,” the First Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Innokenty Alafinov told reporters.

In September, the authorities of the Chelyabinsk Region expected to include the project for constructing the Chelyabinsk-Yekaterinburg high-speed railway in the main infrastructure development plan.

"We are finalizing the justifications that will allow us to include our project in the Federal Plan for infrastructure modernization and development, and to attract Federal funding in case of additional budget reserves. This work, together with colleagues from the Sverdlovsk region, will be personally handled by Governor Boris Dubrovsky," said Vice-Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Ruslan Gattarov.

"Our project has been included in the transport strategy of Russia, and we believe in the necessity to implement this project. In November, the venue of the world exhibition EXPO 2025 will be known. If Yekaterinburg wins, the issue regarding the HSR construction will become acute. Without this road and the infrastructure support from Chelyabinsk, it will be difficult for Yekaterinburg to fulfill the obligations to receive several tens of millions of visitors per six months", R. Gattarov said.

According to Interfax, Dubrovsky earlier noted that the Ural companies and enterprises had almost all the competencies to implement the project.

The concession perimeter includes the creation of a new double-track high-speed railway and associated infrastructure. The total distance between the end stations will be about 218 km, and the journey will take no more than 1 hour 10 minutes. It is planned to complete the construction and put the highway into operation in 2024.
