VEB notes a great macroeconomic effect of the HSR project

"The project for construction of high-speed railways (HSR) in Russia has a great regional effect, which is important for people," the Chief Economist, Deputy Chairman of the VEB Andrey Klepach told RIA Novosti.

As he said this project is absolutely different. "On the one hand, it has more risks as it is much more expensive in scale... HSR has a different quality which includes not only a different scale but also a different technology of movement, a different type of trains, different speed, and moreover creation of a new industry. Its macroeconomic effect on development is very large. It is important that it has a great regional effect, because it is a different time of movement of people and business," - said Klepach.

He concluded that according to economists the HSR project is the catalyst for the agglomeration effect. "Therefore, in my opinion it is necessary to start this project," the Deputy Chairman of VEB summed up.
