Five lines of Moscow Central Diameters in the capital are planned to be launched

Moscow Government is considering the launch of five Moscow Central Diameters (MCD). Every year, the so-called new "above-ground subway” of the capital is going to be used by more than 330 million people, the Deputy Mayor Maxim Liksutov said to TASS on Monday.

"The first two diameters-MCD-1 Odintsovo-Lobnya and MCD-2 Nakhabino-Podolsk is going to be launched in late 2019 - early 2020. Then, three more lines of MCD are planned to be launched. Thus, we will have five complete lines. Now, this project is being worked out in detail," said the Deputy Mayor.

He noted that, in addition to MCD-1 " Odintsovo-Lobnya "and MCD-2" Nakhabino-Podolsk", it’s planned to launch MCD-3 from Zelenograd to Ramenskoye, MCD-4 from Aprelevka to Zheleznodorozhny and MCD-5 from Pushkino to Domodedovo. In further design, other routes may be considered.

"Therefore, the residents of large settlements of the Moscow Region will be able to get to the capital quickly and comfortably. As for Moscow residents, they will get more options for moving around the city. According to our estimates, each year the MCD will be used by more than 330 million people," the Deputy Mayor added. Moscow Central Diameters is a new transport project involving Moscow Government, JSC "Russian Railways", the Government of the Moscow Region, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation and “Moscow Metropolitan". The operator of transportation will be JSC "Central Suburban Passenger Company".

MCD will become a new mode of transport combining suburban trains and metro and will actually form a system of above-ground subway. The work schedule of the MCD will be the same as one for the metro: from 5: 30 am till 1:00 am. In order to ensure comfortable integration of diameters into the urban transport system, a convenient ticket system will be developed: passengers will be able to use the Troika card to pay for trips. In general, according to experts, the implementation of the MCD project will unload the entire transport infrastructure of the capital by 10-12%.
